Part time - Thursdays & Fridays | Long term, full academic yearAre you patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children with Autism?A welcoming primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025. This part-time, long-term role (two days per week: Thursday and Friday) involves working closely with a primary-aged child with ASD who is mostly non-verbal.What You'll Do - 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support in line with the child's EHCP
- Encourage engagement in classroom activities and help access the curriculum
- Support the child's communication, using visuals, PECS, or AAC tools
- Promote social interaction and independence
- Assist with emotional regulation and implement positive behaviour strategies
- Liaise closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
- Contribute to planning, observations, and ongoing assessment
- Experience supporting children with Autism, ideally in a school setting
- Good academic background - degree/qualification
- Understanding of non-verbal communication methods
- Patient, calm, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt resources and strategies to meet individual needs
- Commitment to working two fixed days (Thursday and Friday) throughout the academic year
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable)
- Rated 'Good' by Ofsted, with an inclusive and supportive ethos
