Mechanical Engineer – Offshore Substations (Part-time) required for a major offshore wind developer based in EnglandResponsibilities
  • Preparation of technical documents/ papers for internal review
  • Preparation of employer’s requirements and technical specifications
  • Management of subconsultants ensuring that HSSE requirements are appropriately accounted for in the designs and that quality requirements are met
  • Responsible for the design of mechanical, HVAC, and fire safety systems on onshore / offshore substations
  • Review and develop technical specifications, design basis, lists, and calculations for mechanical, HVAC and fire safety components for both onshore and offshore substations
  • Review, develop and optimise technical solutions
  • Ensure that the deliverables from contractors are of the right quality according to requirements
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Support to the project during the FEED, Detailed Design and Construction phases
  • Mentoring and training more junior engineers
  • Giving technical input to other project functions in your area of knowledge/expertise
  • Participation in project team meetings and cross-disciplinary co-operation
  • Contributing to project cost book
  • Participating in the procurement activities associated with mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems in the project
Requirements
  • Be degree educated in engineering or a related field with proven experience
  • Be chartered or working towards chartered status
  • Have a successful track record in the delivery of mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems
  • Have strong relationship management skills
  • Have highly transferable skills from a related industry (for those without offshore wind experience)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to carry out/ participate in optioneering to obtain the most favourable outcomes/ solutions
  • Have extensive relevant technical design experience within mechanical / HVAC / fire and safety design in offshore substations or offshore oil and gas projects
  • Have hands-on experience with P&IDs, design calculations, equipment sizing and specifications within mechanical discipline
  • Have a strong analytical and systematic approach, enabling you to handle a range of complex tasks quickly
  • Experience in mechanical design of Offshore Substations/ Structures
  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects
  • Familiarity with 3D design tools and preferably have previous hands-on experience
  • Knowledge within HVAC, cranes, emergency generator, MEL will be preferrable
