With our new programme Teachers of Tomorrow, you will be supported in learning about teaching and education by the University of Sunderland, whilst undertaking a paid 12-week placement in a secondary school to put your new knowledge into practice.The ProgrammeWe are proud to introduce our new Teachers of Tomorrow programme, an innovative pilot with the University of Sunderland, designed to support those who want to start a teaching career. We will work to secure you a paid 12-week placement in a secondary school to develop your teaching skills. Alongside this, you’ll receive weekly twilight tutoring sessions, taught by the University of Sunderland, to develop your understanding of educational practices and engage with educators from the University of Sunderland’s School of Education. Teachers of Tomorrow will offer a strong foundation for applications to a PGCE programme. That’s why on completion of the course; you will receive a completion certificate and be guaranteed an interview for the University of Sunderland’s ITT PGCE programmes. With only 25 places available on this exciting new programme, Teachers of Tomorrow will equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence that teaching is the career for you.RoleThe role of a subject specialist Teacher is essential to schools. The best Teachers have excellent communication skills and can build positive relationships with pupils and staff, quickly and effectively. Depending on the role and the school, you will be working with the class teacher to manage behaviour, support with interventions, and provide additional support to children with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). You will assist the class teacher with recording and reporting on pupil progress and behaviour, and help ensure that children are making good progress in the classroom.RequirementsTo be considered for the Teachers of Tomorrow programme, you will:
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a suitable subject, for example, maths, English, science, humanities, technologies, etc.
  • Be committed to completing a 12-week placement in a secondary school and participating in the required training provided by the University of Sunderland.
  • Have a passion to work in education and want to start a career as a subject specialist secondary school teacher.
Vision for Education is contributing significantly to fund Teachers of Tomorrow to ensure it is accessible and affordable. In order to support this, successful applicants will be required to pay a small cost towards securing their limited place on the programme, which will include the cost towards an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service.
