This is an exciting opportunity to work independently as a general neurologist while developing a subspecialist service tailored to your expertise.We welcome applicants from all neurology subspecialties, with a particular interest in epilepsy being highly desirable. You'll play a vital role in enhancing patient care, collaborating with a diverse multidisciplinary team, and contributing to our mission of delivering outstanding neurology services across the county.Work in a dynamic, expanding departmentDevelop a subspecialist service aligned with your expertiseFlexible working opportunities across multiple sitesMain duties of the jobAs a Consultant Neurologist, you will:
  • Deliver high-quality general neurology services across Somerset
  • Develop and lead a subspecialty service in your area of expertise
  • Provide outpatient care across multiple hospital sites
  • Take part in inpatient neurology care at Musgrove Park Hospital, including ward referrals
  • Work closely with a diverse MDT to deliver seamless patient care
  • Engage in teaching, research, and clinical trials supported by the Clinical Research Network
  • Participate in the duty neurologist rota, which ensures a dedicated inpatient focus with no outpatient clinics scheduled during duty weeks

  • CCT in Neurology (or within six months of completion at the time of interview)
Desirable
  • Subspecialty expertise (epilepsy preferred), experience in teaching & research.
ExperienceEssential
  • Ability to work independently as a general neurologist
  • Commitment to teamwork, patient care, and service development
Additional CriteriaEssential
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need
  • Ability to effectively organise oneself and own work
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit
  • Ability to take a lead in developing/managing a clinical area
Desirable
  • Demonstrate wide awareness of issues in health care
  • Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints; management/financial awareness; experience of committee work
  • Active involvement in audit with demonstration of improved outcomes/change
