- Experience with the implementation and management of HSE Management Systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and OSHA VPP).
- Experience of managing local council environment permits (IPPC) and driving air emission, water usage and other waste improvement programs ensuring data is collated and presented to stakeholders.
- Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new, and upcoming HSE legislation ensuring the business implements systems and procedures to achieve above legal compliance.
- Develop and maintain an effective 1st, 2nd & 3rd party assurance audit schedule using active and re-active monitoring to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure adequate means of distributing and communicating HSE and welfare information obtained from safety organisations and or trade associations regarding any new techniques/developments in areas such as accident prevention, best available techniques (BAT) approved codes of practice.
- Educate and develop a culture which continues to encourage accident, incident & near miss reporting and ensure a timely and appropriate response to all reports.
- Work in conjunction with the training manager ensuring there is an adequate programme of training for HSE.
- Plan and implement programs to train managers, supervisors, and employees in work site safety practices, loss prevention, ergonomics, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
- In conjunction with appropriate production, engineering and maintenance staff, review and approve all process, plant/equipment plans, control of contractors ensuring risk assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of same regarding safe working environment.
- The effective day-to-day management, responsibility for an HSE Advisor and encouraging, mentoring their continuous development.
- Educate, support and review emergency programs (facilitate drills) and take the lead in any emergency response event and interface with regulatory authorities as appropriate.
- Prepare studies and analyses of industrial accident, incident causes for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Provide the leadership team with guidelines in adverse event investigation and direct analysis of data to develop controls to prevent recurrence.
- Manage inspections and audits to detect and eliminate unsafe practices and conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental or occupational health sciences or equivalent combination of training & experience.
- Minimum of 5 - 10 years relevant technical HSE experience.
- 5+ years in managing HSE personnel across multiple sites/regions. Experiences of supporting European operations.
- Previous experience within the Aerospace Manufacturing industry is an asset but not a must.
