GSL Education are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Hastings, catering to children aged 4–11 with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties (SLCN), Sensory Processing Difficulties, and Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties.About the Role:
This is a child-focused, practical support role where you’ll work closely with a small class group, helping children engage with a broad, play-based and structured curriculum. The school prioritises emotional regulation, communication development, and life skills — all underpinned by consistency, patience, and teamwork.
Experience with Makaton, PECS, visual schedules, sensory regulation strategies, or supporting non-verbal pupils will be a strong advantage — but if you're still growing these skills, you’re warmly encouraged to apply.Responsibilities:Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needsHelp implement communication tools such as PECS or Makaton, where appropriateUse visual timetables, structured routines, and sensory regulation toolsEncourage social interaction, independence, and learning through guided playCollaborate with teachers and therapists to adapt learning activitiesProvide personal care and mobility support where needed (training provided)Requirements:Experience in primary settings or SEN environments is highly desirableKnowledge of SEND strategies or experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or speech delaysCalm, caring, consistent personality with a child-centred approachUnderstanding of safeguarding and willingness to undertake relevant training
