- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across multiple business-critical platforms
- Take technical ownership of Arqiva's Smart Metering SQL Server estate, including energy, gas, and water platforms
- Deliver ongoing performance tuning, monitoring, patching, backups, and recovery
- Provide expert input to database design, optimisation, and automation using PowerShell and/or Ansible
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure stability and scalability of services
- Implement robust disaster recovery, high availability, and security procedures
- Support integration with other platforms such as Oracle and PostgreSQL where required
- Participate in an on-call rota, ensuring continuous support for critical services
- Actively contribute to service improvement initiatives, including technical documentation and governance
- Support knowledge transfer from retiring DBAs and ensure smooth handover of responsibilities
- SQL Server DBA Expertise: Proven experience managing enterprise-scale Microsoft SQL Server environments
- In-depth knowledge of indexing, query optimisation, and monitoring tools
- Familiarity with scripting using PowerShell, and tools like Ansible for automation
- Exposure to AWS (non-RDS), with understanding of cloud-hosted SQL environments
- Knowledge of backup, security, and access control in critical systems
- Cross-platform Knowledge: Basic familiarity with PostgreSQL and Oracle is advantageous
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to maintain robust technical documentation and configuration records
- A self-starter who can own and drive SQL platform decisions and direction
- Experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
- Demonstrated responsibility for large, complex SQL Server estates in production
- Familiar with cloud-hosted solutions and cross-functional project work
- Experienced in participating in on-call support and ensuring service availability
- A strong interest in developing broader DBA skills, including PostgreSQL and modern tooling
- Eligible for Security Clearance (SC)
