An exciting opportunity has been made available for two new production development support scientists to work within the Clinical Services non-clinical issue department of NHSBT. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to further their scientific education and gain experience of working in a laboratory as you will be fully trained to perform essential tasks using the latest equipment.One post will be based at Filton and one in our Cambridge site with both successful candidates will receive training provided by our research scientist project lead. Initial training will be face to face in Filton under supervision of senior scientist until full competency completed for self-sufficiency. Flexible working hours will be required to meet the needs of our customers.In this role you will be working to deliver safe, ethical and high-quality research material. PBMCs are required in support of internal and external customers latest innovations in lifesaving and life-improving research. This position involves both active participation in laboratory procedures and providing essential administrative support. Successful candidates will bring excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to balance hands-on laboratory activities and administrative responsibilities. Successful candidates will be responsible for data entry and storage of data in line with NHSBT policy and under direction of a senior scientist.Main duties of the jobIn this role you will be a Product Development Support Scientist responsible for analysing, interpreting, documenting and reporting complex laboratory investigations relating to a designated NHSBT research project. Your responsibilities include:
  • Undertaking a wide range of laboratory investigations and scientific procedures using automated, manual and molecular techniques.
  • Monitoring workflow, procedures, equipment and storage facilities and taking appropriate action to resolve problems and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and audit trails for all work and storing samples or materials appropriately to facilitate further work or investigation.
  • Operating within broad national and professional policies and guidelines. Understanding and working within the scope and practice of the role.
  • Analysing, validating, interpreting, recording, transmitting and reporting the results of routine and complex investigations.
  • Taking independent responsibility for following standard operating procedures on complex scientific investigations, identifying any deviations in protocol and troubleshooting ability to problem-solve complex methodologies.
