CarmichaelUK are working in partnership with a Joint Venture delivering a majortunnelling package in the Midlands, and we’re looking to recruit an experienced Tunnelling Agent to join the team on-site in Bromford, Birmingham.This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK, overseeing key aspects of underground works including SCL, TBM, tunnelling activities.Will include some nights and weekend work.Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily tunnelling operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
  • Supervise and coordinate with Engineers, Foremen, Subcontractors, and Specialist suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, and health & safety regulations.
  • Oversee production and approval of method statements, ITPs, and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with the Design and Temporary Works teams to ensure constructability and technical compliance.
  • Attend and lead site meetings, reporting progress to senior management and stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Tunnelling Agent or Senior Engineer on major civil engineering or tunnelling projects (preferably SCL, TBM, or shaft works).
  • Background working with Tier 1 or JV contractors on infrastructure projects.
  • Valid CSCS card and SMSTS/SSSTS.
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of temporary works, tunnel logistics, and compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Desirable:
  • Previous experience on large-scale rail/infrastructure schemes.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and construction management systems.
