Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Gateshead
Salary: £84 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)

Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-TermAre you ready to make a positive difference in the lives of young people who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges?An inclusive school in Gateshead is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide individualised support for students with complex needs. In this vital role, you’ll help learners build confidence, strengthen coping skills, and unlock their full potential both inside and outside the classroom.Role Responsibilities of the SEMH TA:
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour with a calm, proactive approach.
  • Help pupils access learning by adapting resources and strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams.
  • Build strong relationships with students based on trust and consistency.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to support plans and reviews.
Job Requirements of the SEMH TA:
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or within an SEN setting.
  • A calm, patient, and supportive attitude with strong emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
