First and foremost, we are looking for people who have the desire and commitment to be successful. We are interested in people with experience completing maintenance tasks in the textiles industry working on a busy factory floor and workshop.As a Mechanical Engineer at Barrie Knitwear, you’ll be instrumental in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing a range of specialist equipment predominantly in our finishing area. The market and landscape are fast-moving and growing which is creating new opportunities.What will you be doing in the role?Our Mechanics work closely with our production teams to ensure machinery operates at peak efficiency, supporting the creation of world-class knitwear garments. Key duties are summarised below:
  • Maintain and repair a range of industrial knitting and finishing machinery, including Linking, stitching, buttons and wash/press equipment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and technical faults efficiently.
  • Complete general building and grounds maintenance.
  • Work closely with machine operators, production managers, and engineers to ensure seamless operation.
  • General upkeep and management of company assets e.g. company vehicles.
  • Support other sites with machine set up/maintenance when required In Galashiels or Leicester.
What will you bring to the role?
  • Proven experience as an industrial mechanic, preferably within textiles or knitwear.
  • Familiarity knitting machinery is highly desirable.
  • Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  • Can maintain good working relationships with internal staff.
  • Methodical and logical mindset.
  • An eye for detail and meticulous working standards.
  • Patience and perseverance.
  • You have a proactive attitude.
