It is an exciting and transformational time working with the Hertfordshire and West Essex NHS ICB. Sonic Healthcare UK will be taking on the management of Phlebotomy and Pathology Laboratories in the geography including a phlebotomy cohort of circa 150 Phlebotomists.We are seeking a skilled and experienced Deputy Phlebotomy Manager to support the Phlebotomy Manager in the delivery and management of our large and diverse phlebotomy team based out of the Princess Alexandra Hospital and several of its satellite sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing a team of phlebotomists, ensuring high quality patient care and supporting the operational management of the department.Main duties of the jobKey duties will include:Supporting the Phlebotomy Manager at PAH in the operational management of the phlebotomy department.Lead and manage a team of phlebotomists providing guidance, support, leadership, and training.To support Phlebotomy manager with HR duties to include: -

  • Disciplinary
  • Mandatory Training
  • Effective communication with service users and stake holders.
  • First line management for queries/complaints and advice.
  • Day-to-day supervision of Phlebotomy team to include producing phlebotomy rotas.

  • Able to manage, develop and co-ordinate provision of phlebotomy services across multiple sites.
  • Significant experience of managing acute phlebotomy services in large and complex environments.
  • Knowledge of performance parameters, limitations and capabilities of service provision and contracts.
  • Knowledge and experience sufficient to resolve complex technical and service related problems.
  • Knowledge and ability to ensure services are continually provided to required clinical, quality and safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyse, compare, interpret and make sound judgements based on complex data and reports.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Extensive knowledge of UKAS, MHRA and CQC registrations.
  • Experience at a senior managerial level.
  • Leadership skills required for management of a large and diverse workforce.
  • Able to implement HR policy and procedures at a senior manager level e.g. Appraisal, Attendance Management, Grievance and Disciplinary etc.
  • Previous experience of managing large complex teams of staff.
  • Able to liaise and build relationships at a very senior level with key clinical and managerial stakeholders, both internal and external.
