This strategic manager role would be suitable for someone who is hands on and strives to get things done. As the Safety and Risk Manager at HMP Altcourse, your role is pivotal in ensuring a zero-harm safety culture within the organisation. This includes meticulous attention to fire risk assessments in accordance with BRE/PAS 79 guidelines, as well as strict compliance with contractual fire evacuation targets. The primary objective is a significant reduction in the number and severity of incidents such as accidents, injuries, and fires. You will be at the forefront of ensuring that the organisation complies with relevant legislation and undergoes audits seamlessly, swiftly addressing any Safeguard red actions. The role also involves maintaining annual audits such as BSC 5-star audits, BSC International Safety Awards, and ROSA Awards, showcasing the organisation's commitment to safety standards.The Safety and Risk Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that prison directors and senior management conduct regular auditable safety tours and inspections. The focus is on verifying that staff across all activities are effectively managing risks through up-to-date and comprehensive risk assessments, including those related to fire, COSHH, and manual handling. The ideal candidate will contribute to building a clear safety culture within all departments, promoting proactive safety management among managers, and providing tangible evidence of risk identification and control.Please see the attached job description for a more detailed list of the main responsibilities. What You'll Bring:Ideals:National H&S qualification (NVQ Level 5 or equivalent) NEBOSH Fire CertificateDetailed knowledge of current fire, health & safety legislationProven recent experience and solid knowledge of in fire, safety, health and risk management systems.Self-motivated with high performance and outputs achieved with minimal supervision.Passion for being proactive and taking ownership for delivery of outcomes.Ability to travel to other sites where required.Confident at effective planning and organisationDesirables:Risk Management and Business Continuity Management training.
