- Extensive experience with US and other government's export controls and additional experience with Wassenaar Arrangement.
- Good working knowledge of foreign import / export regulations, particularly UK and EU Member States and the US EAR, and ITAR including General Correspondence / Retransfer requests under US and other export control regulations.
- Working knowledge and experience in performing, reviewing, and processing Export control screenings.
- A working knowledge and understanding of the TARIC and Harmonized Tariff Codes (HTS) to determine duty, taxes, tariffs, and VAT on imported goods.
- Experience in applying for and managing export licenses.
- Ability to communicate complex regulations clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, various teams, and stakeholders.
- Ability to identify potential compliance issues and contribute to the appropriate solutions.
- Meticulous record-keeping and documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple activities involving numerous details.
- Experience in ECCN classification for hardware, software, and technology.
- Requires the ability to lead, motivate, and manage to accomplish project objectives within timelines.
- Ability to effectively work across functions and regions.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to manage data from multiple sources and interpret requirements and regulations.
- Ability to develop trusting relationships across Electro Rent, including within corporate functions and business teams.
- You must be eligible for full security clearance.
- Good all-round computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications.
- Considerable experience in exports, export classification, export licensing and export control screenings.
- Bachelor’s degree Required (Preferred in a scientific or engineering background) or 4-year equivalent is required.
- Reviewing products, classifying goods for customs purposes (including export commodity codes), and determining the need for export licenses based on destination country, end-user, and end-use. This includes handling dual-use products and ensuring compliance with both UK and US regulations.
- Applying for and managing export licenses, including those under US ITAR and EAR regulations, as well as UK export licenses.
- Keeping up to date with changes in the UK, US, and other relevant export control regulations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on export control and other trade-compliance matters in EMEA.
- Assisting with Export Control Reform Compliance requirements and company initiatives.
- Ensure the correct processing of imported goods in accordance with the relevant Customs Authorizations, including associated record keeping.
- Provide import clearance instructions to freight agents in an efficient and timely manner to enable prompt customs clearance and delivery of goods to the business.
- Respond to requests for information from team members, internal parties on the status of shipments and interface with third party and internal parties to resolve trade data issues and escalate to management as needed.
- Develop and maintain end-to-end department trade compliance process flows in the format of a Desk Level Procedure.
- Work with Project Teams and functions to ensure that Export Control and Trade Compliance aspects of Equipment and Technology (including data) are in compliance with US, UK, EU, and foreign export authorizations.
- Support preparations for internal/external audits relating to Export Control and Trade Compliance matters.
- Communicate with local technical support, OEMs, manufacturers to gain and solicit classifications (HTS, Schedule B, ECCN, and country of origin).
- Update ERP regarding missing trade data information such as ECCN, commodity code, country of origin etc.
- Work with Product Management, Engineering and Government Contracts Administrator to collect all applicable documentation for Dual Use / ITAR related projects, TAA agreements, etc. are in place before projects are started.
