GCSE English & Functional Skills Lecturer - FE College - Permanent - Full-Time - West LondonRole: GCSE English & Functional Skills LecturerLocation:West LondonSalary:£32,455 to £45,260 per annum including London WeightingPost Type:Full TimeClosing Date:18th August 2025We are seeking to appoint full time Lecturers to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English within our cross-College provision, primarily to vocational learners aged 16-18, with a growing provision of part-time adult learners.This is a challenging and rewarding area of the College. You would play a key role in supporting our vocational learners with their development and to help them progress onto higher courses or the workplace. You would join a team of skilled teachers with a wealth of experience and knowledge, who are pro-active in sharing best practice with the team in order to engage and enthuse resit learners.You will preferably possess a degree in English or a related subject, with experience of teaching or tutoring English GCSE and/or Functional Skills, and have the ability to engage and enthuse 16- to 18-year-olds from a variety of vocational disciplinesQualifications
  • Degree or equivalent in English or related subject
(or minimum of Level 3 qualification plus proven successful experience of teaching English/Literacy/ESOL/EFL for at least 2 years)
  • CELTA or equivalent
  • Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. DET, PGCE) or willing to work towards this, supported by the College
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of teaching or tutoring GCSE, Functional Skills English, EFL, ESOL or literacy
  • The ability to take on course leadership responsibility
  • Experience of working in Further Education
  • An understanding of the exam requirements for GCSE/Functional skills
Other Skills
  • The ability to engage and enthuse vocational learners aged 16-18
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour of students effectively and engage reluctant learners
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good teaching practice including classroom management
  • Ability to use IT within the curriculum including the ability to deliver effective teaching online/remotely
  • Good administrative/organisational skills and ability to use IT systems effectively
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
