
Highways Inspector

- Conduct visual inspections of highway assets to identify defects and raise appropriate works orders or defect notices.
- Respond to and resolve enquiries related to highway inspections in accordance with council policies and legislation.
- Liaise with contractors and utility companies to monitor works, process invoices, and ensure standards are met.
- Investigate public claims and complaints related to street conditions; provide evidence or statements for legal proceedings when necessary.
- Enforce compliance under the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, issuing defect notices as required.
- Accreditation under the NRSWA 1991 (or willingness to attain).
- Accreditation under LANTRA Highway Safety Inspector training (or willingness to attain).
- Demonstrable experience in highway maintenance and/or utility operations.
- Experience managing interactions with members of the public, contractors, and elected officials.
- Proven ability to adapt operational practices to statutory and business requirements.
- A valid UK driving licence.
- Familiarity with street care processes, performance standards, and quality management systems.
- Understanding of highway and related legislation including contract and financial regulations.
- Knowledge of performance indicators and service standards for highway maintenance.
- You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
