If you want to take your first step into a career supporting young people to achieve their potential then we would love to hear from you.Due to a need for maternity cover, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Youth Development Worker at Carthew House in St Austell - supported accommodation for young parents aged 16-25.We take a strength based approach, called Advantaged Thinking, in all the work we do; encouraging young people experiencing homelessness to aim high, dream big and fulfil their ambitions.Every day is different; you could be delivering 1-2-1 support sessions on life skills, reviewing an action plan, supporting a young person to a medical appointment, contributing to a multi-agency meeting or supporting group activities as part of the learning programme.You will be providing key worker support to our young people. Working through support and action plans, updating risk assessments and risk management plans with them, in order for them to develop the life skills necessary to move on and live independently in the community.One of the great things about this role is being able to bring your own personality. Our young people come from a wide range of backgrounds and we try to mirror that in our team of colleagues.This role is being offered on a part time, fixed term basis for a period of 9 months. The successful candidate will be working 22.2 hours per week on a rolling rota, to include Bank Holidays and weekend working. Bandwidth hours will be 8am to 10pm.Youth Development Workers work on a rolling rota: shifts can include 8:30am-4:30pm, 11am -7pm, and are part of a team on site supporting the young people who can live with us for a maximum of 2 years.   • An ability to engage with a range of young people.
  • A tenacity in seeking the best outcomes for young people.
  • A good understanding of young people's needs, safeguarding and emotional and mental health issues.
  • An understanding of support needs and support planning.
  • An understanding risk assessing and risk management.

This role is really suited to someone who likes to manage their own diary and caseload, and enjoys interacting with lots of people on a daily basis.The most important part of this role is to have pride in your work and have a positive attitude, a proactive approach and the confidence to support a diverse range of young people.
