Job descriptionProspero Teaching are looking for a caring and dedicated Communication Support Buddy to join our client schools specialist provision, helping students access their education in a supportive and inclusive environment.Ideally, you’ll have some knowledge of hearing loss, but if not-don’t worry! Training and support can be provided. What’s most important is your enthusiasm and commitment to helping every child feel seen, heard, and supported.We are looking for a candidate with British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or above, or Makaton Level 2 or above with a desire to further develop your skills. The school’s primary communication approach is Sign Supported English, ensuring students can engage fully in their learning while strengthening their confidence in communication.What You’ll Be Doing:Empowering students by providing sign language/ Makaton support tailored to their individual needs.Creating connections-whether in the classroom or small group settings-to reinforce learning and encourage communication.Encouraging independence, helping children build confidence in both academic and social environments.Fostering inclusion by running sign language clubs, introducing a ‘sign of the week,’ and promoting the use of sign language alongside speech.Support & Training:You’ll have dedicated support from the Teacher in Charge of the Specialist Provision, including:Training in deaf awareness and understanding the impact of hearing loss on learning.Guidance on hearing aid equipment and effective strategies for working with students.Insights into language development programmes and visual resources to enhance communication.The Details
