The UK government has committed substantial investment into improving our infrastructure, so we are building a talented team to make the most of this opportunity. It is a new approach for AWE and we need someone who can support a new programme in its set up then evolution into a full, long-term project.As a Cost Engineer, you will be working in a Project Controls team with responsibility for all aspects of Cost within our Future Infrastructure Programme. You will be responsible for the establishment, development and maintenance of timely & accurate cost data and reports; including forecasts, performance analysis, Earned value and Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) in accordance with our Business RhythmAll of this will support the project in minimising the Estimate At Completion (EAC) for the Programme, highlighting any efficiencies and challenging assumptions where necessaryA typical day for a Cost Engineer could look like this:
Producing and maintaining accurate cost forecasts in alignment with our Contractor payment applications, Purchase orders and time bookings, whilst engaging with Schedulers, Project Manager’s and Supply chain and reviewing cost estimates
Calculating accruals on % work complete and making necessary cost adjustments to spend, to ensure data accuracy
Accurately representing approved Performance Management Baseline changes and new scope within the Programme budgets, maintaining the Work Breakdown Structure as you go
Providing accurate and timely management information to the Functional processes, standards and business rhythm, in order to enable effective governance and decision making
Supporting and adopting any changes rolled out across our Function
Assisting with the development of emerging cost systems and reports to ensure delivery of Project objectives
Providing timely and focused cost reporting for the Programme to key stakeholders
Assessing the EAC & Budget at Complete (BAC) movements for the Programme
Ensuring that Earned value techniques are correctly implemented in the Programme i.e. Rules of credit and cost/schedule alignment
Comparing and analysing trends to Basis of Estimate within the Programme and identifying risk and opportunities to spending to budget
Ensuring all Project documents, in particular Sensitive Nuclear Information, is correctly marked, and protected in accordance with AWE policies and procedures
Ideally we would like you to demonstrate or have experience of:
Holding or working towards a related professional qualification
Success in a Project Controls environment or similar Cost role on a major Technical/Engineering project
NEC Contracts
Being adept with Cost management tools and Excel. We use Oracle and Contruent
Thinking for yourself and being proactive, with strong organisation and prioritisation skills
Building rapport and creating great relationships, within a multi discipline team
