Contract Type: Locum (initial 3–6 months with potential extension)An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8 Biomedical Scientist with specialist expertise in Clinical Biochemistry to join a busy and well-equipped NHS laboratory in Durham on a locum basis.About the Role:The successful candidate will support the delivery of a high-quality clinical biochemistry service and provide leadership in technical and quality matters. This role is ideal for an experienced BMS looking for a senior position with the flexibility of a locum contract.Key Responsibilities:Lead and manage daily operations in the biochemistry departmentMaintain compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and contribute to audits and quality assuranceSupervise and support junior staff, ensuring training and competency assessments are up to dateAssist with analyser maintenance, troubleshooting, and method validationWork closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and accurate results are delivered for patient careEssential Requirements:HCPC registration as a Biomedical ScientistExtensive post-registration experience in Clinical BiochemistryProven ability to work independently and lead a teamStrong understanding of laboratory quality systems and governanceExperience using modern automated platforms (e.g., Roche, Abbott, Beckman)Desirable Skills:MSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science or a relevant subjectExperience in LIMS and middleware systemsPrevious locum or Band 8-level experience
