Part time - 16 hours 40 minutes over 2 daysThe post would be offered at a Band 5 level until a glaucoma training and competency package has been achieved.Applications are invited for a permanent, part time Band 5-6 Orthoptic position. This post is suitable for an experienced Orthoptist with a desire to undertake autonomous practice in the area of glaucoma management.We are looking for a highly motivated experienced Orthoptist with some degree of glaucoma assessment/training to join our department of 5 Orthoptists and 8 Consultant Ophthalmologists. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience of working towards a glaucoma qualification. Previous glaucoma accreditation would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given.The Department of Orthoptics provides a range of services at Rotherham Community Health Centre.We are an accredited clinical placement centre, committed to the teaching of undergraduate Orthoptic students, as well as medical students, pre-registration Optometrists and other healthcare professionals.The department encourages regular involvement in CPD and departmental clinical audit, as well as personal review / development processes.In addition to a degree /diploma in Orthoptics, HCPC registration is mandatory. Involvement as an autonomous practitioner in all the orthoptic led clinics, to include low vision, Goldman and glaucoma clinics, after passing competency training packages if necessary
To be personally and professionally accountable for providing high quality care within all areas of demonstrated competency
To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records for each patient contact
To develop and maintain high quality patient care plans based on individual patient needs and abilities
To be responsible for identifying individual development or training requirements and escalating these through the personal development review (PDR) process
To ensure safe and effective practice in all areas of proven competency
To escalate any concerns or issues as required to the orthoptic manager/deputy orthoptists
To be involved with clinical audit and service reviews as required
To attend and be actively involved in staff meetings
To liaise with internal and external contacts to ensure safe and effective patient care, within the guidelines of confidentiality and data protection legislation
To adhere to the Rotherham Foundation Trust, British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) and Health and Care Professions council (HCPC) policies and procedures
