The successful candidate will work across Lancashire supporting children and young people who are Deaf or have a hearing loss.The STS is a peripatetic visiting teaching service that provides support and advice across the Local Authority within Lancashire early years settings, schools and colleges. We support and advise on the needs of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) specifically within the remit of deafness and hearing loss. The QToD team consists of highly qualified and experienced Specialist Teachers, a Deaf Role Model and Sensory Technicians. We work closely with parents/carers, families, professionals, and other agencies to support children and young people in a range of settings including at home, nurseries, pre-schools, primary and secondary schools and colleges. We work across all age ranges from birth, up to the age of 25 if still in education.The role will consist of:
  • Supporting D/deaf and hearing loss for babies, children and young people within a range of settings, schools and colleges.
  • Travelling across Lancashire to provide support, guidance, assessments and teaching opportunities to individuals and small groups.
  • Working in collaboration with parents/carers, families, educational settings and other agencies to meet children's individual needs.
  • Signposting appropriately and delivering training material when necessary.
  • Identifying and assessing needs and contributing towards setting outcomes for pupils.
  • Managing and administrative tasks associated with a varied caseload.
  • Using ICT effectively to teach and for maintaining records accurately.
  • Participating in professional develop opportunities, sharing new learning and experiences with colleagues
  • Being part of a committed team and contributing to service developments.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Teacher of D/deaf Children and Young People who has completed the mandatory (QToD) qualification or is willing to work towards this. You will contribute to the key work of the Specialist Teaching Service by:
  • Being committed to an inclusive approach to education.
  • Having strong moral SEND values with the vision and determination to make a difference.
  • Being accountable for improving outcomes for all children and young people.
  • Showing evidence of experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs to ensure they receive a high-quality educational experience that meets their needs.
  • Being able to work collaboratively with children receiving SEN support or those with EHCPS, their families and schools/colleges.
  • Being able to provide challenge and support to schools, establishing clear actions for all partners, and evaluate the progress being made against these.
  • Confidently modelling teaching approaches to setting and school staff and actively promoting raising standards for children with SEND.
