- Control the design, development, and evaluation of components and assemblies for new and existing models from concept to mass production, ensuring they comply with the customer requirements, and liaising with other areas of R&D and other departments to ensure this is fulfilled.
- Apply technical knowledge to resolve issues and coordinate development issues into areas of expertise with internal contacts, external suppliers and customers, toolmakers, and other Panasonic organisations.
- Support the Project Leaders and Team Leader to ensure relevant project-based AQ and R&D documents (NCL, schedule table, BOMs, etc.) are completed in line with the required processes.
- Ensure assigned mechanical parts are available on schedule for sample builds according to agreed schedules.
- Attend and contribute to relevant development meetings, both internal and external. Ensure that all stakeholders are fully informed as required by providing necessary technical information and updates on any new or ongoing issues, including appropriate responses and actions being taken.
- Support with general testing and evaluation of appliances, assemblies, and components being developed in HAD R&D.
- Mentor and support junior members of the Mechanical Design team with the technical aspects of their work.
- Consider historic problems and endeavour to eradicate them from future designs.
- Provide evidence that the relevant customer, Panasonic, regional (e.g., EN), and general product safety directives are considered where appropriate.
- Support the Project Leader to ensure cost requirements for mechanical aspects of development are available when required including samples cost, mass production parts, and tooling cost.
- Support the Project Leader to create and maintain project plans and schedules for mechanical aspects of development.
- Consider new technology to improve and implement new R&D systems and processes, ensuring efficient product development and future improvement to product development.
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline plus three years of relevant industry experience, or at least five years of relevant industry experience in a similar role.
- High-level problem-solving skills with the ability to efficiently resolve technical issues.
- Component design experience (ideally in plastic and sheet metal).
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (ideally injection moulding and metal pressing).
- High level of 3D CAD skills (preferably CATIA V5 and ENOVIA).
- Assembly design experience.
- Drafting experience, including dimensioning and tolerance.
- Some experience in materials selection.
- Some experience in product and component evaluation.
- Knowledge of project management processes.
- Knowledge of various quality system methodologies e.g., Lean, 5 Whys, Six Sigma, etc.
- Knowledge of simulation tools e.g., CFD and FEA.
