Job Title Senior Analyst, Investment RiskJob DescriptionThe Senior Analyst, Investment Risk is a new role that will play a central part in supporting the company’s commitment to growing its funded reinsurance business globally and achieving key investment objectives: delivering attractive risk/return outcomes; and maintaining close matching against long-dated liability cashflow profiles for effective risk management. The role focuses on:
  • Oversight of key market risks (i.e. mainly rates and FX) and liquidity management within the context of an asset-liability management process covering multiple regulatory environments including UK and Bermuda.
  • Enhancing credit risk frameworks to accommodate the firm’s expanding requirements within structured / private assets.
  • Developing scenario and stress testing framework for market, credit and liquidity risk to support existing capabilities.
As the role covers elements of market, credit and liquidity risk (collectively investment risk), the successful candidate should have a strong background in investment risk analysis acquired within an insurance / reinsurance company or related field such as asset management or banking. You should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others. A degree in a quantitative subject (e.g. mathematics / finance / economics) is required, along with relevant work experience in investment analysis or risk management.Market & Liquidity Risk Oversight
  • Support development of One PL framework covering Asset Liability Management, FX and Liquidity management.
  • Manage collation of data and production of monthly investment risk MI reports for MRSC, identifying any breaches of risk appetite. Reporting includes:
  • Monthly monitoring of asset-liability and liquidity management within the context of multiple regulatory environments including the UK and Bermuda
  • Quarterly monitoring of non-USD currency risk exposures against enterprise FX policy. Lead efforts to refine analysis and frequency of reporting.
  • Support the implementation of the liquidity management framework including working with the Treasury and ALM Teams to monitor liquidity headroom and support implementation of contingent actions as required.
  • Perform regular assessment of the company’s asset liability management strategy, analysing hedge effectiveness and identifying potential risks and opportunities to support effective risk management.
  • Support ongoing assessment of company’s market risk appetites and their suitability for the in-force portfolio and business development objectives.
  • Monitor operational readiness for compliance with key regulations in relation to investment risks, including BMA capital enhancements.
  • Contribute to the improvement of processes, use of software/methodologies, and knowledge to enhance the maturity of investment risk management framework.
  • Produce agenda, actions tracking, and minutes for the Divisional Market Risk Subcommittee (MRSC).
  • Document updates to associated risk policies and limits.
Credit Risk
  • Support analysis of credit risk in respect of private / structured assets to inform structuring considerations and risk appetites to support successful onboarding and on-going management.
  • Support assessment of liquidity considerations associated with investing in private / less liquid assets.
  • Utilize industry best practices to quantify credit risk, aggregate exposures and develop more in-depth assessments of credit risk exposures to ensure alignment with the company’s overall risk management framework.
  • Support VP, Savings & Retirements and VP, Protection on strategic investment and market risk initiatives across all lines of business. Direct ad-hoc projects, reporting, and analysis as requested.
Stress & Scenario Testing
  • Performing stress tests and scenario analyses covering market, liquidity and credit risk to evaluate the impact of adverse changes on the company’s investment portfolio and asset liability management.
  • Develop Stress analysis capabilities to help assess potential crisis implications as the Company migrates to broader asset classes.
  • Provide analysis for annual regulatory reporting including the Commercial Insurer’s Solvency Self-Assessment (CISSA), including supporting climate change asset risk scenario analysis.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BSc required, CFA/FIA or equivalent status desirable.
  • 5+ years of actuarial or investment experience including responsibilities related to asset liability management, structured assets and asset-backed securities.
  • Experienced in building effective relationships with key stakeholders such as investment teams, pricing teams, risk management, and senior management.
  • Capable of effecting significant change.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Positive attitude, collaborative and team-oriented.
Desirable:
  • An understanding of the building blocks and drivers of insurance cash-flows and their determinants, including statutory, economic, and GAAP frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience of a broad set of insurance products, i.e., life and annuity, protection etc.
  • Expertise in economic capital techniques and analysis.
  • Expertise in design and implementation of ERM frameworks.
  • Strong mentoring skills to develop and train junior members of the team.
  • Project management skills.
