As a member of Physical Chemistry, you will support the team in delivering high-quality aqueous solubility, lipophilicity, pKa, aqueous chemical stability, and matrix-binding data to our clients, supporting their drug discovery activities.The RoleAs our Laboratory Assistant – Physical Chemistry, you will be part of our dynamic and adaptable Physical Chemistry team which supports one another through mentoring and coaching. Working with collaborative partnerships ranging from small academic groups to large international pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies in doing so, it champions the use of new science and technology to provide tailored solutions aligned to the specific needs of each client. We continually push to grow and improve our scientific offerings through bespoke projects and continual assay development. Our team currently consists of members with varying levels of experience and areas of expertise, and we are looking for a Laboratory Assistant to support the group’s increasing workload.Key Responsibilities
  • Support execution of assigned routine and bespoke physical chemistry assays, including solubility, lipophilicity, ionisation, chemical stability and matrix binding
  • Prepare, monitor and maintain compounds, stock solutions, buffers, and any other assay-related materials of relevance
  • Routine calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Assist in running and maintaining robotic systems to support high throughput processes
  • Perform work following quality control procedures, within specified timelines, and within safety regulations
  • Ensure that all errors and erroneous results are reported to your supervisor with minimal delay
  • Work autonomously as part of the team to deliver team’s priorities, with good organisation and communication skills
  • Participate in initiatives to improve group processes and make efficiency gains in assays
Education, Qualifications & Experience
  • A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent), in Science, English and Maths. A-Levels / BTEC or Laboratory-based experience would be preferred but full training would be provided for any suitable candidate
  • Experience in use of balances, fume hoods, and basic chemical handling procedures would be desirable
  • Highly self-motivated and personable
  • Able to communicate effectively within a team environment.
  • Able to organise daily tasks, to frequently work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working within CRO or pharmaceutical environment would be welcomed.

  • Pension on completion (but not subject to) of your 3-month probationary period. Contributions 5% for employees (salary sacrifice) and 5% for the employer. The employee can opt to increase their contribution, and the employer will match the increase up to a maximum of 7.5%.
