Job Description :A leading electrical contractor is seeking an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to manage and deliver the end-to-end commissioning process of high-voltage substations across solar, BESS, DNO, and ICP projects. This role is essential to ensuring system functionality, safety, and compliance prior to energisation, and will suit someone with strong technical knowledge and practical experience across voltages from 11kV to 132kV.Key ResponsibilitiesAssess sites to ensure HV systems and plant apparatus are suitable and ready for commissioning.Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).Supervise the installation of HV equipment to ensure compliance with design specifications and standards.Perform comprehensive testing and validation on equipment such as switchgear, transformers, cables, signal panels, and GLVPs.Conduct electrical testing including:AC/DC, HV/LV, SCADA and comms systemsDuctor testing, insulation resistance, AC Hipot, VLF, primary and secondary injection (Omicron or similar)Fault finding on LV/HV cables (e.g., sheath/core to earth faults)Carry out cable terminations and glanding on multicore and signal cables, with verification and continuity checks.Program relays and adjust logic settings to ensure the system aligns with protection coordination studies.Produce detailed commissioning reports and maintain all test and compliance documentation.Act as a key point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and DNOs, maintaining high standards of customer service.Ensure quality assurance and adherence to safety regulations throughout all commissioning phases.Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and effectively during the commissioning process.Mentor and support junior engineers in technical and safety best practices.Provide on-site support when required by senior leadership or project managers.RequirementsRequired Experience & SkillsDemonstrable commissioning experience across HV substations (11kV–132kV) within Solar, BESS, DNO, or ICP environments.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ITPs, and protection studies.Hands-on experience with HV electrical testing and commissioning tools (Omicron or equivalent).Strong understanding of HV/LV equipment and system behaviour.Clear and confident communicator with excellent client-facing skills.Committed to quality, safety, and technical excellence.
