Haven has an opportunity for an experienced and driven individual to take on a role as Head of Finance and Operations.Established in 1975, Haven is an independent charity that provides specialist services in Sheffield for children and young people affected by domestic abuse.Supporting over 500 individuals each year, our mission is to take action, and deliver creative solutions that adapt to the ever-changing needs of children and young people affected by domestic abuse. To break down barriers, intervene early, and provide the necessary support guided by a trauma informed and child-centred approach.Haven is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Finance and Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team. This pivotal role will help shape the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring financial sustainability and operational excellence as we deliver on our core mission.We’re looking for a highly numerate, efficient, and enthusiastic individual with outstanding budgeting and people skills. You’ll bring a strong background in financial management, strategic planning, and operational delivery, and play a central role in supporting Haven’s growth and development.About the RoleYou will lead on all aspects of financial management, governance, HR, and operational systems. Working closely with the CEO, senior staff, and Board of Trustees, you’ll ensure robust internal processes, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective resource management. You will also line manage our Finance Coordinator and Office Coordinator and oversee relationships with external consultants (accountancy, payroll, HR, IT, insurance and fundraising).This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys problem-solving, strategic thinking, and supporting a committed team.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior management and the Board to support decision-making and organisational development.
  • Manage restricted and unrestricted funding and lead on financial aspects of grant applications and monitoring.
  • Oversee operational delivery, including HR processes (recruitment, induction, appraisals, pay reviews) with support from our HR consultant.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and facilitate effective governance through liaison with the Board and management of Board affairs.
  • Act as Data Protection Officer and ensure robust internal controls and risk management procedures are in place.
  • Line manage the Finance Coordinator and Office Coordinator and oversee financial and administrative functions.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures.
  • Produce project budgets and financial reports for funders and external stakeholders.

1.1 Proven experience in finance and operations management, ideally within a small charity, with at least 5 years’ experience of working in a senior finance position.
