We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Tower Hamlets to assist with the appointment of a Project Manager - Mechanical & Electrical, on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.Rate of Pay: £265.62 - £368.92 per daySummary:The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is seeking a highly skilled and degree-qualified Mechanical Project Engineer to act as a Project Manager for the delivery of the Mechanical programme within the Leisure Capital Programme. The role will also provide professional support to the Councils separately funded Capital Improvement Programme. The post holder will manage end-to-end project delivery, ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, management, and delivery of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects as part of the Leisure Capital Programme.
  • Support the wider Capital Improvement Programme by providing expert technical input and project management oversight.
  • Oversee contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure works are completed to specification, within programme, and in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and control project budgets, preparing regular progress and financial reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure effective communication and minimal service disruption.
Qualifications :
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership of a recognised engineering body (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE) desirable.
  • Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM or equivalent) advantageous.
Requirements:
  • Proven track record of managing Mechanical & Electrical capital projects within leisure, housing, or public sector environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, plant, and building services engineering.
  • Demonstrable experience in budget management, procurement, and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with UK building regulations, health and safety legislation, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent project planning, risk management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Experience of working within local government or similar public sector environment desirable.
