- BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar subject. Master preferred.
- Graduate/Associate member of IMechE, or an equivalent institute.
- Working knowledge of mechanical principles (structural mechanics, materials, etc.).
- Able to review and interpret engineering drawings.
- Understanding of the challenges associated with net zero fluid (CO2, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, etc.) production, transportation, and storage.
- Understanding of the mechanical design process and implementation for pipeline facilities, storage facilities, gas process plants, and chemical plants desirable.
- Understanding of the engineering requirements for FEED and detailed design project phases
- Practical experience of stress analysis work scopes is desirable.
- Understanding of design that minimizes environmental impact desirable.
- Discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- Able to work independently and be highly organised.
- Computer literate with all MS Packages, particularly Word and Excel proficiency.
- Knowledge/experience with FEA software desirable (AutoPIPE, Caesar II, Abaqus, etc.)
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills; good customers service skills.
- Flexibility to work within team environment.
- Undertake design and engineering activities, under immediate supervision and general direction of a Senior Engineer related to the preparation of specifications, data sheets, calculations, and technical requisitions as necessary to fully define the design requirements for the equipment and services required related to pipeline, piping, stress analysis, static, and rotating equipment.
- Develop and evaluate vendor package specifications for mechanical equipment (process skids, rotating equipment, valves, loading arms, etc.) including the production of Request for Proposal documents, mechanical datasheets, bid evaluation, and vendor interface.
- Carry out stress analyses and investigations, under supervision of experienced Mechanical Engineers.
- Assist Senior Engineers to ensure integrity, effectiveness, safety, robustness, and fitness for purpose of mechanical designs on engineering projects (feasibility, FEED, detailed design, and EPC).
- Perform work in accordance with the Penspen Group ISO 9001 Accredited Quality System, including ISO 14001 Environmental Procedures and ISO 18001 Health and Safety Procedures.
- Awareness of major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting routine design work (ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, B31.12, BS PD 8010, IGEM/TD/1, API 5L, API 6D, API 1102, etc.).
- Provide guidance, quality review, and instruction to Designers for the production of CAD deliverables including plot plan, general arrangement, and isometric drawings.
- Produce, or have input into, Technical Reports and Notes.
- Organise and prioritise personal work tasks to ensure maximum efficiency and performance of work in accordance with corporate and project / client procedures.
- Co-ordination and interfacing with other engineering disciplines as required by the Senior/Lead Mechanical Engineer.
- Familiarity with design standards and work practice guidelines required for the delivery of engineering projects.
- Participate in site visits as required, to facilitate design work, to gather information, and to resolve Project related problems under guidance of Senior Engineers.
- Ensure deliverables meet project requirements and specifications.
- Develop own technical and non-technical competencies required to perform the role, including Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and sharing knowledge with other team members.
