Behaviour Support / SEMH Teaching Assistant- Gateshead
Full-time | Long-term role | Start date: September 2025Are you motivated by the opportunity to support young people who need stability, understanding, and someone who believes in them?We are working in partnership witha SEND Provision in Gateshead, a specialist provision for secondary-aged pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion. Many students have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and require patient, consistent adults who can help them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.What You’ll Be Doing:Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groupsUsing de-escalation techniques, restorative approaches, and trauma-informed practiceHelping students regulate their emotions and make positive behaviour choicesSupporting classroom learning alongside experienced teaching staffActing as a positive role model and building trust through routine and reliabilityIdeal Candidates Will Have:Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour (e.g. in a PRU, AP, mainstream, youth work, care or mentoring role)A calm, non-judgemental and consistent approachA genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learnersConfidence to manage behaviour while keeping students’ needs at the heart of everythingA resilient mindset – someone who can reflect, adapt and keep goingWhy This Role?Make a real impact in a student’s life by helping them re-engage with educationWork within a small, supportive school where relationships come firstLearn from highly experienced SEMH practitioners and pastoral leadersOpportunities for training and development in SEND and behaviour supportBe part of a team that values care, structure, and opportunity for all pupilsThis is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to grow their experience in SEMH, behaviour support or youth intervention work.
