
Support Worker

- Previous experience of caring for people in either an employment or voluntary capacity for a minimum of 1 year
- Signalong/Makaton experience
- Experience of joint working with other agencies
- Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care, equivalent experience or willing to complete within 18 months of appointment
- Literacy and numeracy skills Level 2 or equivalent level of competence
- Care Certificate
- Ability to work flexibly with regard to working hours/arrangements, which may include early morning, evening and weekend working.
- Ability to safely use a range of moving and handling equipment i.e. moving and handling, push/pulling wheelchairs/using hoist equipment
- Ability to work in a variety of settings
- Ability to demonstrate commitment to Care Plus Group core values
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide practical support
- Ability to listen and communicate effectively and to be empathic, compassionate and patient
- Effective team worker
- Ability to assist service users with the activities of daily living and be prepared to assist with the basic practical tasks in order to promote independence.
- Ability to undertake personal care tasks
- Ability to accurately record and maintain records.
- Ability to follow Support/ Care plans
- Demonstrates an understanding of Learning Disability and/or Older People and associated issues.
- Ability to deal appropriately with service users who may demonstrate challenging behaviour.
- Awareness of Health and Safety legislation
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Understanding of the principles of promoting independence
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- Knowledge of Dementia Care
- Understanding of current legislation - Valuing People
- Knowledge of infection control
- Knowledge of risk assessments and person centred care
