Responsibilities:
  • Undertake assessments of children and families under the Children Act 1989, including Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC) cases.
  • Develop, implement, and review Child Protection Plans, CIN Plans, and Care Plans, ensuring they are outcome-focused and meet the needs of the child and family.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload, ensuring all statutory timescales are met for visits, reviews, and assessments.
  • Complete court reports, parenting assessments, and viability assessments for care proceedings and contribute to Public Law Outline (PLO) processes.
  • Chair and contribute to multi-agency meetings, ensuring robust safeguarding and support plans are in place.
  • Conduct Section 47 (child protection) investigations, working alongside police and partner agencies to assess risk and take appropriate protective action.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, families, and partner agencies to reduce risk and promote family resilience while ensuring the child's welfare is paramount.
  • Use a strength-based approach to empower families and provide interventions that prevent children from entering the care system where possible.
  • Escalate cases where necessary to ensure timely interventions and the safety of children at risk of significant harm.
  • Work within the Family Safeguarding Model, engaging with domestic abuse specialists, mental health practitioners, substance misuse workers, and partner agencies to provide a holistic approach to safeguarding.
  • Undertake direct work with children and families, ensuring their voices are heard and their wishes and feelings are reflected in care planning.
  • Support families to make sustainable changes through tailored interventions, parenting programs, and support services.
  • Liaise with schools, health professionals, police, courts, and voluntary sector organisations to ensure coordinated and effective support for families.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with statutory guidance and local policies.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for court, case conferences, and statutory reviews, ensuring they are evidence-based and child-focused.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures, including Working Together to Safeguard Children, The Children Act 1989/2004, and local safeguarding procedures.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and reflective practice to continuously improve skills and practice.
  • Contribute to team meetings, service development, and quality assurance processes, sharing best practices to improve outcomes for children and families.
  • Provide support and guidance to newly qualified social workers (ASYE) and contribute to the development of best practice in the team.
Requirements:
  • Social Work Degree or equivalent
  • Social Work England registered
  • Enhanced DBS
