Job Overview:The Commissioning Engineer plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient commissioning of gas infrastructure projects. Working within a growing and collaborative commissioning team, the role involves hands-on involvement in site activities, technical problem-solving, documentation, and client support. Commissioning Engineers will require the individual to work on their own initiative to pre-FAT systems, FAT, on site commissioning and SAT, either individually or in pairs depending on projects. The role will require experience in hazardous/explosive atmospheres with a good understanding of ATEX directives. This is a development-focused role, ideal for someone looking to build a long-term engineering career in the gas sector.Commissioning Engineer Objectives:
  • Commissioning Engineers Lead and support pre-FAT, FAT, commissioning, and SAT on gas control systems
  • Troubleshoot, test, and resolve technical issues on-site and remotely
  • Liaise with clients, technicians, and design teams to ensure smooth project delivery
  • Support documentation, training, lessons-learned reviews, and project meetings
  • Work in ATEX/hazardous environments, ensuring health & safety compliance
  • Contribute to commissioning strategy, QA processes, and site safety (CDM Regs)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out and support commissioning activities across projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and standards.
  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and technical inspections both on-site and remotely.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to execute commissioning plans and resolve technical issues.
  • Accurately document progress, test results, and faults using company systems.
  • Ensure commissioning complies with design specs, QA/SHE standards, CDM 2015 regulations, and H&S policies.
  • Participate in project meetings, training, and lessons-learned reviews to drive continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company professionally on client sites, maintaining strong communication and safety awareness.
Essential Skills:
  • Familiarity with gas odourisation, chromatography, or G35/G17 - Distinct advantage
  • Minimum City & Guilds, ONC or HNC in an engineering discipline
  • 5+ years' experience in commissioning or technical engineering (gas industry preferred)
  • Strong understanding of C&I systems, PLCs, gas metering, and flow control loops
  • Knowledge of hazardous area practices (ATEX/DSEAR)
  • Familiar with electrical/mechanical drawings and process instrumentation
  • Full UK driving licence & ability to travel/stay away up to 4 days/week
Essential Must Haves:
  • Full UK driving license
  • Ability to work away from home up to 4 days a week
