This is a great role for an experienced Vet Surgeon, who is passionate about orthopaedics, looking for an exciting new opportunity! Or perhaps a skilled Surgeon looking to develop your orthopaedic skill set?Their current orthopaedic surgeon is unfortunately leaving, after 14 years, for their next adventure. Leaving some big shoes to fill!
The rest of the team are not very keen on using power tools during surgery…therefore, they are looking for a replacement vet to take up that mantle. The ideal candidate would already have experience performing TPLO/CCWO/TTA and fracture fixation, as well as having soft tissue surgical and general practice skills. However, they would also be happy to support teaching of a candidate with a solid foundation in surgical techniques who wishes to learn new orthopaedic procedures, as the practice has a visiting RCVS advanced practitioner in surgery, endoscopy and endosurgery available to assist/support if needed. Some previous experience or previous CPD in these procedures would be preferred, but this could be an amazing opportunity for a candidate wishing to take that next step in their career. The practice outsources their OOHs but currently keeps their own in-patients, a service which they are proud of. Offering their patients greater continuity of care and reduces stress of moving them to OOHs providers.
Patients are cared for overnight by the night nursing team, as well as having a vet on call to assist with any issues. Their current on-call rota is full, but they would appreciate someone who is able to offer back up support to the junior vets on a 1:6 basis.
In addition to leading the orthopaedic service, you will be a capable GP Vet who still enjoys less fancy procedures and doesn't mind giving a vaccine or two. You will be working across their 4 RCVS accredited branches in South Wales, all equipped with ultrasound, digital X-ray, in house blood machines etc. Their branches consist of a mixture of consults and surgeries/procedures, whereas the main branch is where they keep hospitalised patients.Together, they like to prioritise team well-being by seeing that everyone finishes on time, ensuring full lunch breaks, you have time for a cuppa and toilet breaks when needed (all non-negotiable).
They have administration time built into vet diaries, so you aren't expected to update owners or check up on labs in lunch breaks or after you have finished for the day.
Labelled “trail blazers” for the new BVA Good Workplace Accreditation scheme. This scheme focuses on ensuring workplaces support colleagues across a wide range of areas. An exciting scheme to be taking part in, they are committed to working with the BVA to work towards accreditation - not just about an award but truly learning from the process to ensure that they provide the best possible work environment. They are appreciative of supporting a good work-life balance as well as the importance of job satisfaction - and really strive to ensure all the team feel fulfilled in their career, as well as being able to enjoy and cherish their free time out of work. They are very supportive of working parents and appreciate the difficulties of trying to be both a vet and parent, they will always work hard to find solutions at work to help being the best of both.
At this practice you will have great opportunity for development, and certificates will be fully supported, along with all other career aspirations. They want you to grow and develop and grow as part of their team. They also believe in having lots of fun at work, winter/summer parties, cake, team competitions, and having fun outside of work!Located in a beautiful part of the world, near the Brecon Beacons National Park, with great transport links and easy access to Bristol and Cardiff in 45 minutes and 2.5 hours to London. The main branch sits in a friendly market town offering many activities such as rowing, fell running, knitting, cooking and enjoying the many “foodie” opportunities in the area. Many of which the team enjoys in their time off.
They have previously supported colleagues at all points in their careers, from newly graduated vets to those returning after a career break, to those working towards a certificate and those wanting to pursue leadership/management roles.Further benefits to expect include:
  • 28 days holiday including bank hols (based on 4 days/week)
