Do you have the flexibility and commitment to make a meaningful difference in a primary school setting?GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing and specialist provision in Chesterfield. This is a full-time position, ideal for individuals with a background in SEN, youth work, or social care who can offer consistent support to pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs.Key Responsibilities for the Primary SEMH TA:
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of behaviour support plans and individual education programmes.
  • Foster a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to support student progress.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction.
  • Encourage engagement in learning through tailored strategies and positive reinforcement.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable).
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
  • A full UK driving licence and business insurance (essential).
  • Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or care (preferred but not essential).
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
