TheLeadCloud and ServerEngineerwillbe responsible forthe developmentofmodern, reliable, 999cloud and serversolutionsfor the Trust.TheLeadCloud and ServerEngineerwill work closely with theCloud and ServerArchitectsto ensure thatappropriate technicalresources aretrained and thenaligned to work streams, toensure a seamless and consistent delivery ofCloud and Server services to agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and technical standards.TheLeadCloud and ServerEngineerroleis a"hands on"technicalrolewhich requires extensiveexperienceof:
  • Cloud platforms & architecture including Microsoft Azure IaaS
  • On-premises& Hybrid Server, Compute & Storage Infrastructure
  • Virtualisation infrastructure environments including Microsoft Hyper-V & VMWare
  • Microsoft Windows Server Roles (e.g. Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, DFS, Group Policy etc)
  • Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online etc)
  • Mail & Web filtering tools (e.g.,Clearswift, Fortinet)
  • VPN solutions such as Microsoft Direct Access or Always on VPN
  • Remote Desktop Services & VDI Solutions
  • Backup & Recovery Solutions
  • Cyber Security & Antivirus Solutions (e.g. SOPHOS, Microsoft Defender of Endpoint)
  • Database & Data Architecture including Microsoft SQL Server
  • Endpoint Management Solutions including Microsoft SCCM & Intune
  • DataCentreEnvironments
  • Digital Infrastructure Monitoring Solutions (SolarWinds, Azure Monitor)
Main duties of the job
  • Identify technical requirementsfor new systems or servicesrequiringCloud & Servercomponentsboth internally and with other NHS and private health care providers.
  • Ensure all team members are appropriately trained and have accesstoefficient and effectivedocumentation to support systems in a 24/7 environment.
  • Support theCloud & ServerArchitectsthroughoutthebudget settingprocess.
  • Identifyareas forefficiency and cost saving throughcommissioning and decommissioningofsystemsand services.
  • Ensure the delivery ofcore services andprojects aredeliveredwithinagreedqualitystandards for Confidentiality,Integrity,and Availability (CIA)and are delivered to agreedtimelines.
  • Ensure all live services and solutions are regularly reviewed at least annually to ensure all Service Definitions (ServiceLevel Agreements (SLA's),Service Levels:RTO/RPOand TechnicalDocumentationisaccurate.
  • Manage adiverse range of supplierrelationshipsto ensure best value for the Trustby embedding the use ofspecialistthird partieswhereappropriate.
  • Provide 3rd Line technical support.
  • Collaborate with theArchitectTeam, transforming dev solutions into workable products which can be supported by SWASTinfrastructure.
  • Act as one of the out of hours (24*7*365) "Cloud & Server Engineer on Call" to support DDaT out of hours activities, typically this 1:3 or 1:4 weeks/month including bank holidays, etc. and is additionally remunerated to basic salary.

  • Experience of supporting enterprise level critical Cloud & Server infrastructure
  • Experience of being the technical lead of Organisational/Departmental level projects.
Desirable
  • At least five years management experience in the NHS as well as experience either in the Public and/or Private sector.
  • At least five years Business Continuity experience supporting large, complex ICT installations
