The Bristol design centre is focused on optoelectronic ICs primarily targeted to datacoms and adjacent markets. Within the centre, all functions of product development from initial ideas to full production take place, including, marketing, definition, design, layout, product engineering, validation, test engineering, characterization, qualification, applications, etc. Due to the significant innovation and differentiation in the development of our products, Semtech has continued to be the leader in our target markets.Job Summary:The Principal Automotive Functional Safety Engineer is responsible for functional safety requirements across product development and research with the full support of a functional safety team. You drive implementation of requirements, make changes to product design where needed, complete verification and physical implementation, use software tools and processes of products to deliver the highest level of quality products within autonomous, robotic driving portfolio. You will take on extensive hands-on activity in safety, bring teams together to formulate solutions for complex problems and transfer your knowledge to niche market areas to significantly contribute to major product innovation that leads business success.Responsibilities:Analyse systems and components to ensure Semtech meets stringent safety requirements.Conduct Safety and Failure analysis (FMEA/ FTA / DFA / HARA), documenting analysis outcomes and recommending requirements based on results of this analysis (hands-on where needed).Conduct TARA – security threat analysis in conjunction with HARA, where required.Guide and develop system modelling for Safety & Security executions where required.Work with Product Definition and the R&D teams to deliver designs with ISO 26262 compliance, define functional and technical safety concepts along with technical, software and hardware safety requirements.Develop HW & SW Safety Mechanisms concepts, specifications, including control diagrams and implementation of safe state machine and provide support for their verification & validations specifications and review and confirm test specifications and reports.Guide Reliability studies for HW (Fault metrics calculations) and FMEDA.Support customer reviews with functional safety input.Support Functional Safety Managers and Safety Project managers for developing all safety ISO26262 Work Products and provide inputs for Confirmation Measure within the area you are responsible.Report multiple project technical activities to the project managers, strictly follow and contribute to Project Plans.Drive technical impact analyses for safety anomalies.Conduct and oversee technical confirmation measure reviews and document the confirmation measure reports.Deliver solutions to complex problems by providing a systematic answer which impact the Mechanical, Software and Hardware systems for a product.Ability to work independently and mentor others as well as conduct others work if required.Qualifications & Experience:Minimum MSc degree in electrical/electronics, automotive or relevant degree.12+ years of professional experience in automotive systems and components, ability to understand communication, control, and processing sub systems.Profound knowledge of hardware safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508.Profound experience in safety verification and validation of sub systems.Solid knowledge of Semiconductor manufacturing and product development for Automotive applications.Expert Functional Safety Practitioner certificationExecutive knowledge on Quality, ISO26262 and Deviation managementExperience in concept engineering, System Modelling, SysML, Enterprise Architecture or expertise with similar tools.Demonstrated ability in interpreting and assessing complex vehicle systems and architectures regarding safety is required.Profound experience in automotive safety (ISO26262: ASIL-B and ASIL-D) and its application within ASIC designs.Experience in autonomous driving, sensors, and robotics.Knowledge of software development processes, standards, or guidelines (ASPICE, MISRA) as well as scripting and document generation tools (Python, Latex) are a plus.Career Growth PhilosophyAt Semtech, we seek innovation and leadership from each member of our team.
