Working Pattern: Full time – 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Upon joining us you will have access to a range of benefits including the following:For a full list this can be found at ourThe OpportunityIn this role, you will review detailed highway designs, reviewing engineering drawings and supporting design information, as well as negotiating with developers and their agents to secure amendments to designs. You will be responsible for securing agreements through Legal Services for the completion of developer works and recovery of fees and other costs. You will need a good working knowledge of highway design and construction, the planning process and highway agreements.You will be responsible for the provision of a professional, high-quality service to our customers and people of West Sussex. You will be dealing with complex professional and technical issues within the service area and supporting the maintenance and development of professional practice across the service within the specialist field.The post will require occasional visits to live highways and construction sites, and you’ll need to be able to travel independently around the county, often to remote locations which may not be easily accessible by public transport.About youSome of the key skills and experience required for this role include:
  • Extensive experience in a highway discipline.
  • Sound analytical and judgment skills to review technical submissions and develop solutions.
  • Excellent customer service skills, communication and interpersonal skills to provide specialist advice and guidance to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to maintain and create effective working relationships and influence decision makers to deliver required outcomes and have political awareness within this.
  • Ability and knowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • BTEC HNC level or degree, or post graduate qualification within the specialist area or equivalent qualification or experience demonstrating that level of advanced applied knowledge in researching, analysing and evaluating arguments and information.
  • Detailed and thorough knowledge of relevant highways and transportation standards and procedures.
  • Sound and accurate IT knowledge
  • Experience of mentoring and providing on-the-job training to other team members to meet objectives and deliver a professional service.
