This full-time role offers a long-term to permanent pathway and the chance to be part of a school where pupil wellbeing, independence, and inclusion are at the heart of everything they do.About the School
  • A specialist setting supporting pupils with complex needs, including Autism and Speech & Language challenges
  • Located in a well-resourced area of Lewisham with excellent leadership and collaborative staff culture
  • A strong and supportive SLT focused on CPD, wellbeing, and inclusion
The Class
  • Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6) with 9 pupils
  • Supported by 2 experienced Teaching Assistants
  • Pupils working below age-related expectations (P Levels)
  • Needs include ASD, communication difficulties, and some behaviour challenges
  • Class Teacher will have both academic and pastoral responsibilities, including EHCP contributions
Your Role:
  • Planning and delivering engaging, tailored lessons
  • Creating a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Using behaviour strategies that foster confidence and self-regulation
  • Collaborating with families, therapists, and the wider team
  • Adapting the curriculum with strategies like Makaton, PECS, or sensory-based learning
  • Supporting pupil wellbeing, including physical activity and emotional literacy
  • Contributing to CPD and collaborative staff development
Who We're Looking For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential
  • Experience in UK Primary settings, ideally with SEN learners
  • Confident communicator with strong classroom management skills
  • Knowledge of Autism, speech and language strategies, and communication tools (Makaton/PECS/ABA - desirable)
  • A proactive, reflective, and nurturing teaching approach
