We can offer flexible and family friendly working arrangements, great benefits including generous annual leave, supportive and inclusive work environments, and opportunities to learn and grow your career with us.We are responsible for providing a range of payroll & pensions services for our clients.We have an opportunity for an experienced payroll SME to provide specialist advice in response to referrals from the Contact centre Advisors and other internal operational teams. You will also deal with more complex payroll related issues and escalations as necessary.You will be responsible for:Individual:
  • Provide effective specialist advice in response to referrals from the HR & Payroll Contact Centre Advisors, HR & Payroll Operational Teams and Service Delivery Managers that require in depth policy or legislative knowledge
  • Deal with more complex payroll related issues, guiding the teams or to case manage to resolve the issue
  • Develop and implement business process improvements
  • Review and sign off system changes which will affect payroll processing and anything affecting payroll related system functionality
  • Coach and support managers within the client base when requested and provide expert advice and recommendations
  • Alert Service Delivery Managers to any issues (process or legislative) that could have a business impact in terms of operational delivery; making recommendations to overcome any potential service failings
  • Work with HR Operations, Payroll & On-Boarding Teams to ensure queries and system problems are resolved before impacting payroll processing#
  • Own the relationship between client payroll & HMRC to resolve any problems or queries which arise
  • Process year end & test statutory updates prior to system release: P60’s, P11d’s, RTI interfaces
  • Balance monthly payroll figures with outbound (RTI) interface values rectifying any anomalies
  • Work with other HR, Payroll & Pension Specialists to resolve queries which cross workstreams and clients
  • Work with Applications Support Teams to achieve smooth running of payroll and supporting systems (e.g. BACS)
  • Ad hoc projects raised from errors or queries when it is clear that more than one person is affected
  • Any other activities within the scope of the role which may be required and requested by the Service Delivery Manager (Support) and / or Head of Service
  • All activities need to be performed in line with UK SBS strategy in accordance with defined processes, timetables and agreed service levels in line with the UK SBS behavioural expectations
Team:
  • Liaise closely with Service Delivery Managers to build and maintain good relationships and work on joint/cross-service activities and objectives
  • Provide the Head of Service and Service Delivery Managers with effective support
  • Broaden own capability/experiences by working with peer group
  • Service Management:
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers; developing and influencing a strong network to facilitate effective working relationships
  • Influence the thinking of senior level stakeholders in order to build and maintain confidence and credibility in HRSD services to the Business Areas
  • Recognise the diversity in the client and customer base effectively and demonstrate an ability to influence new and innovative ways of working and thinking
  • Act as a role model to encourage development of individuals, motivating payroll team members to deliver consistently high levels of performance and continuous improvement
  • Promote a customer-focused and team-based culture which identifies, communicates and addresses customer needs and escalate the outputs appropriately
  • Establish an environment which strives for continuous improvement by encouraging contributions from all employees
  • Encourage all employees to operate professionally e.g. with regard to confidentiality and code of conduct
To do this role well you will need:
  • Knowledge of statutory legislation and payroll processing best practice
  • Ability to influence stakeholders of all levels delivering results
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills and the ability to explain complex payroll calculations
  • CIPP, or comparable, qualification or have the equivalent level of payroll experience
  • Able to translate complex payroll information to a non-payroll audience
  • Able to interpret and present complex data in a range of formats to multiple audience types
  • Good attention to detail skills and producing high quality work
  • Previously worked in a payroll service delivery department
  • Knowledge of current statutory payroll guidelines and best practice
  • A pro-active and problem-solving approach with examples of successful outcomes
  • Experience of handling challenging conversations/complaints
In return for your skills and experience, we can offer you flexible and remote working options for a 37hr week (full time) with start and finish times between 8am – 6pm, or part time hours to suit. Our team usually work from home and come into the office once or twice a week, but we are flexible on this too.
