Job Category: Community EngagementJob Description:Engagement and Advice Worker | 8659 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £31,537 to £33,699 per annum | Grade G | County HallNorfolk SENDIASS provides confidential and impartial information, advice and support about special educational needs & disabilities (SEND) for children, young people, parents/carers and professionals, to empower them to play an active and informed role in issues relating to their education and care.The service plays a crucial and impartial role within the Local Authority in promoting the active participation of children and young people who have SEND and their parents/carers in issues around SEN and disability.SENDIASS works with parents/carers, children and young people as well as various professionals, keeping channels of communication open, and ensuring appropriate support is in place.
  • Are you passionate about engaging with children and young people who have a range of special educational needs/disabilities, to enable their meaningful participation in discussions and plans made about their education and care?
  • Would you be able to write accessible resources, booklets and training related to complex SEND legislation to enable children, young people and families to be informed of their rights in relation to education.
  • Are you a skilful communicator, capable of drawing out positive ways forward, maintaining clear and professional boundaries and managing realistic expectations.
  • Are you able to create and build upon professional relationships with stakeholders across Norfolk to promote the service.
  • Are you able to succinctly and confidently provide information, advice and support to parent/carers, children, young people and professionals through phone calls, emails and face to face adapting how you do this to make it accessible?
If so, we would like to hear from you.The focus of the role is working with children and young people with SEND and their families, creating positive relationships with professionals and settings across Norfolk and being a source of information and expertise on SEND legislation, navigating SEND processes and advocating directly for children and young people enabling them to have their views and wishes heard.In this role, you will work to empower, advise and advocate for children and young people to help secure their positive outcomes.The role will involve lone working, working evenings and weekends and travelling across the County to widen the reach of our service and foster positive relationships with professionals.If you are organised, resilient and empathic, with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, then we would like to hear from you.Informal discussions about this role are encouraged.
