As Head of Risk and Assurance, you will lead and champion this vision, driving a pragmatic, agile and forward-looking approach to risk management. You will ensure that assurance activities add real value, helping leaders make informed decisions, manage risks proactively, and meet regulatory and governance standards.How you'll make a differenceYour work will give our leadership, Audit and Risk Committee, and residents confidence that NHG is effectively identifying, managing and mitigating key risks. By drawing together multiple sources of assurance - from internal audit findings to tenant feedback and specialist audits - you will help tell a clear “assurance story” that shows how well we are managing our obligations. This will directly support better decision-making, stronger compliance, and improved services for our residents.How you'll do it
- Develop and deliver NHG's risk and assurance framework, ensuring it aligns with our vision, mission and values.
- Embed effective and proportionate risk management across NHG, enabling managers to take informed and timely decisions.
- Manage and coordinate assurance activities, while maintaining the independence of the internal audit function.
- Draw together and report on assurance from multiple sources (internal audit, sustainability audits, data audits, management information, tenant feedback, specialist reviews) to provide a comprehensive picture of assurance against key risks.
- Provide high-quality reporting and insight to the Audit and Risk Committee, the Executive Team and other governance bodies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Audit and Risk Committee, CEO, internal audit provider, and sector peers.
- Lead, develop and motivate your team to reach their full potential, fostering an inclusive, empowered and high-performing culture.
- Drive continuous improvement in risk and assurance processes, identifying opportunities to streamline, simplify and add value.
- Keep abreast of emerging risks, sector trends, and best practice in risk and assurance, reporting to key governance bodies on developments, adapting NHG's approach accordingly and providing assurance that NHGs risk and assurance activities remain fit for purpose.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant NHG and statutory policies and procedures, including health and safety and financial regulations.
- Ensure that you follow and keep up to date with all relevant Notting Hill Genesis and statutory policies and related procedures including health and safety and financial regulations.
- Hybrid arrangements apply - a minimum of three days per week in the office, with home working possible on other days where appropriate.
- Bachelor's degree (BSc, MSc, MBA or equivalent) in business, risk management, or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional certification in risk management or related field.
- Membership of a recognised professional body related to risk management or internal audit (e.g., IRM, IIA).
- Extensive understanding of risk management and assurance frameworks, preferably within the affordable housing or regulated sectors.
- Proven track record of developing and delivering organisational risk and assurance strategies.
- Experience in managing internal audit arrangements and working with senior governance bodies.
- Skilled in drawing together multiple assurance sources to provide clear, actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and retain talent.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled communicator, able to influence and build trust with stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- Experience in social housing or public sector risk management, particularly in health and safety contexts.
