A new, permanent full-time position for a Veterinary Surgeon is available at a busy, family-run 24/7 veterinary hospital in West Yorkshire. This opportunity is ideal for experienced veterinary professionals currently working in the UK and seeking a new role.
  • Full-time Veterinary Surgeon
  • Salary dependent on experience
  • 1 in 4 weekends (no sole charge; 10-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday, primarily ECC-focused with 30-minute sick pet consultations and inpatient care)
  • 4 weekday shifts (Monday to Friday)
  • In-house support from colleagues holding certificates in Surgery, Medicine, and Dentistry
  • £1,500 annual CPD allowance; certificate sponsorship encouraged
  • Active in-house CPD and clinical development program

The hospital is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join their experienced clinical team. The role primarily focuses on consulting, making it ideal for those who enjoy client interaction and case work-up without a heavy surgical commitment. There is also an opportunity for candidates with a particular interest in ophthalmology to combine consulting duties with ophthalmology clinics and procedure days, with strong potential for developing these services further. Additionally, the hospital welcomes applications from vets with experience in inpatient care or hospital shifts, particularly those with an interest in imaging or intensive hospitalisation cases.Due to the current surgical team being fully staffed, this role would not suit someone seeking a high surgical caseload. The position is aimed at experienced Veterinary Surgeons with substantial UK practice backgrounds. It is not suitable for new graduates, those requiring extensive in-house training, or individuals without prior UK practice experience.
As a hospital known for its high standards in both primary care and referral services, the team regularly performs advanced procedures such as oesophageal tube placements, seldinger chest drain placements, silicone abdominal peritoneal drains, pig tail urinary catheters, TFAST/AFAST, endoscopy, negative pressure would therapy and urinary catherisation. They also manage complex medical and surgical cases, including caesarean sections, pyometra surgeries, exploratory laparotomies, Addisonian crises, diabetic ketoacidosis, and severe pancreatitis. The hospital is exceptionally well-equipped with a wide range of advanced diagnostic and treatment tools.
