Senior Civil Engineering TechnicianCardiffPermanentWe are currently seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineering Technician to join a well-established and expanding design team based in Cardiff. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to a variety of infrastructure projects and take on a key technical role within a collaborative environment.Role OverviewThe successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality technical designs and drawings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting junior staff. This role offers the chance to work on diverse projects and engage directly with clients, contractors, and approving authorities.Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain project documentation using digital platforms and common data environments.
  • Develop 3D models for levels, earthworks, and drainage, and facilitate data exchange across software such as Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, and Revit.
  • Prepare highway alignments, cross-sections, schedules, and technical submission packages.
  • Produce detailed drawings for external works, drainage systems, and SuDS layouts.
  • Identify and resolve below-ground utility conflicts through coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Update 2D drawings based on feedback from authorities and contractors.
  • Delegate tasks to junior technicians and coordinate with other design disciplines.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and approving bodies to resolve design queries.
  • Monitor task progress and advise on delivery timelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support quality assurance and compliance with standards.
  • Mentor junior team members on technical and drawing-related matters.
  • Assist with resource planning and provide constructive feedback.
  • Respond to site and design team queries.
  • Prepare technical submissions for highways (S278/38/50), sewers (S104/185), and SAB approvals.
  • Candidate Profile
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and detailing.
  • Solid knowledge of the design process, including work stages and approval procedures.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with InfoDrainage is desirable but not essential.
