NUH is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Trust Grade doctor at ST3 level or above to support one of the largest General Surgery departments in the UK.The post is offered as a fixed term contract for 12 months. Sub-specialty preferences will be discussed at interview and rotations are offered in line with preferences and departmental availability in line with rotations.This is an exciting opportunity to get excellent experience in general surgery and sub-specialty elective services. You will work closely with consultants, other resident doctors and multi-disciplinary teams. You will also contribute to the Emergency General Surgery on-call rota and therefore completion of core surgical training (or equivalent), full MRCS, ALS (or equivalent) and previous UK experience are essential.Main duties of the jobOur services are provided across two main campuses (Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital) and deliver separate sub-specialist emergency care for Colorectal, UGI and HPB conditions, alongside general surgery. Our elective care is also delivered across both sites and we have recently opened a brand-new theatre complex and elective inpatient ward at City campus.You will support your allocated specialty with elective activities including clinics and theatres, and cover ward duties which will be allocated on a weekly basis.   • Good and wide-ranging recent experience of general surgery in an acute inpatient setting in a large/ tertiary hospital
  • NHS Experience of at least 12 months
  • Evidence of completion of key competencies equivalent to at least CT2 level
  • Evidence of working out of hours with limited support
  • Experience of supervising junior colleagues

  • Evidence of training in surgical skills and trauma management/ critical surgical care
Teaching, Audit & ResearchEssential
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit/quality improvement
  • Experience and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

  • Commitment and enthusiasm for professional development as evidenced by undertaking of courses/ programmes of post graduate study
