What’s the OpportunityOur team has an opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join our well-established Plymouth team. In this role you will carry out civil engineering and draughting functions for highways, drainage, utilities, earthworks and other inputs as required.Our team have expertise in civil engineering projects that encompass highways design for roads, pavements, Sectional Agreements and in earthworks engineering, cut and fill assessments, remediation, underground services, flood alleviation, sustainable drainage systems, pumping stations, sewerage and external works.Our current workload includes a range of interesting building and civil engineering projects including schools, residential developments and public realm improvements.What you need to do to be effective in this role
  • Ability to undertake and manage the following:
  • Project Design Management – Civil/Infrastructure
  • Drainage Design (FRA, Layout, Hydraulic Calculations)
  • Highway (Planning, Local Authority and Highway Authority)
  • Levels (Cut & Fill, Retaining Walls, Boundary Constraints)
  • S278, S38, other Associated Agreements with Local Authorities
  • Construction Specifications
  • Risk Assessments
  • Site Queries at Construction Stage
Desirable complimentary skills:
  • Ensure that designs and engineering solutions produced are of good quality, comply with current design and construction standards, applicable to legislation and client expectations; and are delivered within the agreed timescales.
  • Commercially lead selected projects and to employ appropriate control measures to ensure that fees are managed and invoiced accurately and to capture change to maximise our commercial position and protect the business against overspend.
  • Develop good working relationships with clients.
  • Deliver and help other members of staff to deliver a first-class service which meets legal guidelines and health & safety requirements.
  • Participate in the development of the office.
  • Develop contact with clients, planning consultants, architects, project managers, services engineers and all other associated professionals.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies, standards and policies.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop excellent business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role
  • Manage and co-ordinate the Civil engineering requirements of projects with clients, architects, project managers and other professional team colleagues.
  • Actively pursue your professional development leading to a professional qualification such as CEng, MICE
  • Establish scope of works, client expectations and agreement of project deliverables and timescales.
