They're the values that make us LNER.Are you on board?So, what exactly do our On-Train Skills and Competency Managers do?We're glad you asked!Reporting to the On-Train Experience Manager, our On-Train Skills & Competency Managers, are responsible for ensuring the competence of all grades within the On-Train grade and will be the escalation point for safety and operational matters on board.This means you'll be accountable for undertaking all safety critical competency assessments and all compliance within the on-train grade including, Train Managers, Chefs, Senior Hosts and Customer Experience Hosts. This will involve maintaining a training and upskilling plan, that will include ensuring all higher grade working duties and contingency requirements are all accounted for.On board safety will be a top priority and maintaining this will include, but will not be limited to, responsibility for fire precautions care, task based and workplace risk assessments and oversight of security management.Aligned with the rest of the on-train leadership team, the On-Train Skills & Competency Manager will monitor trends within the organisation as well as across the industry to drive improvements to employee and customer safety through development on action plans and process improvements for our on-train grades.What does it take to become a On-Train Skills and Competency Manager?To make it as a On-Train Skills and Competency Manager you'll need to:
  • Be competent in Train Management Safety critical duties/Train Manager or Guard competent (essential)
  • Ideally be a qualified assessor (A1 Assessors or equivalent) with experience in managing the competence of safety critical staff
  • Have a Food Hygiene level 3 qualification
  • Have safety management experience, ideally with some auditing knowledge.
  • Be passionate about excellence in customer experience
  • A competence in IOSH Managing Safely, internal Risk Management, Fire Precautions, Incident and Internal Investigation standards would be desirable
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong coaching capability that develops team competence, capability and professionalism
  • Be able to build effective relationships and use a collaborative approach to drive a holistic customer experience
  • Be flexible and resilient with change and business pressures with the capability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment with constant changing priorities.
