
Research Technician in Malaria Transmission Biology

- Rearing and maintaining colonies of Anopheles mosquitoes, including our transgenic effector lines
- Culturing and maintenance of Plasmodium falciparum parasite cultures
- Maintain smooth operation of our insectary and parasite culturing facilities over the weekend, ensuring work is not disrupted
- Be on hand to assist with various laboratory techniques, including PCRs, gel electrophoresis, cloning, immunological assays (e.g., ELISA, Western blot, immunofluorescence), preparation of media/chemical solutions, tissue dissection, and nucleic acid extractions according to agreed procedures
- Supporting postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and external collaborators
- BSc in a relevant subject
- Demonstrable lab experience and ability to conduct work in a safe and meticulous manner
- Demonstrable experience of working with Anopheles or other insect species
- Demonstrable experience of working with cell/parasite cultures
- Knowledge of parasite and vector biology is desirable
- Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
