Job Type: Full-time, PermanentAbout the Role:New vacancy for an experienced and passionate Advanced Practitioner/Approved Mental Health Professional to join the Emergency Duty Service based in Swindon. This role is crucial in providing out-of-hours crisis intervention, undertaking Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments, and responding to urgent safeguarding concerns for children and adults.The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, providing expert social work intervention and ensuring individuals receive the right support during crisis situations. This role requires a strong ability to assess, manage risk, and make critical decisions under time-sensitive conditions.Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake statutory MHA assessments, ensuring timely and appropriate decisions regarding hospital admissions, community-based alternatives, or crisis care.
- Work with police, ambulance services, mental health teams, and inpatient units to coordinate effective interventions.
- Make least restrictive decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Human Rights Act 1998.
- Respond to urgent safeguarding concerns for both adults and children, ensuring compliance with the Care Act 2014 and Children Act 1989.
- Provide support in domestic abuse, child protection, mental health, homelessness, and urgent care placement cases.
- Assess and manage high-risk cases, making urgent decisions in line with statutory duties.
- Collaborate with NHS services, police, housing teams, social care, and voluntary organisations to ensure a coordinated response.
- Attend strategy discussions and case reviews, contributing to multi-agency safeguarding responses.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to partner agencies and frontline social work staff.
- Act as a mentor and supervisor to AMHP trainees and social workers within the Emergency Duty Service.
- Support the continuous improvement of crisis intervention strategies within the service.
- Ensure all documentation meets statutory requirements, completing high-quality risk assessments and reports
- Qualified Social Worker, Degree in relevant profession with evidence of post qualifying learning and development.
- Registered with Social Work England
- Post graduate qualification in a relevant area, e.g. Practice Educator or Best Interests Assessor or Approved Mental Health Professional.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience in mental health, crisis intervention, and safeguarding services.
- Strong knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, and Children Act 1989.
- Experience working within an Emergency Duty Service (EDS) or Crisis Team is highly desirable.
- Ability to make high-risk, time-sensitive decisions in crisis situations.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Experience in multi-agency collaboration, ensuring effective partnership working.
