
Associate Director - Mechanical Engineering

- Plan and co-ordinate the activities of the mechanical design team (CAD/BIM, engineers, expert resources)
- Liaise with Client’s team for all related issues or decisions, represent design teams in meetings, provide technical opinion or support whenever needed
- Proactively review design documentation to ensure compliance to standard and requirements
- Review, evaluate and implement industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standards (quality)
- Coordinate the Quality aspects of the mechanical sub-systems deliverables as per the project Quality Management plan principles
- Review and approve (wherever applicable) all deliverables, act as a technical control level across projects
- Maintain and develop competency of the team within your discipline, including:
- Competency assessment,
- Professional reviews,
- Training plan,
- Guidance and mentoring to junior team members,
- And support the senior team in growing the technical capability of the discipline/business
- Support the senior team to implement efficient processes to manage safety assurance (including CDM, CSM-RA and interoperability), and Verification and Validation (V&V) technical assurance
- Promote sustainable design and development (Eco-Design)
- Promotion and encouragement of innovation
- Biding opportunities across the UK and International business: to support the growth of revenue and capability of Egis.
- Projects for multiple commissions across the UK and International business.
- Technical Lead for some specific assignments, or,
- Technical Lead for projects with responsibility for all EDC production activities and outputs on the projects.
- BSc or similar in Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
- Chartered Engineer/Technician membership or equivalent professional status from a recognised institution
- Extensive experience in Engineering / Technical functions, with experience as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) / Engineering Manager (CEM) in major infrastructure/transportation projects
- Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time to programme
- Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
- Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience of working in an engineering production environment
- Good knowledge of UK design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2, TfL and National Highways.
- Excellent management skills with the ability to support, mentor and animate a team of engineers and technicians
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
- Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent knowledge of railway infrastructure/Highways systems, and operating requirements
- Understanding of interdisciplinary within rail or Highways environment
- Experience of working in design and build projects
- A clear understanding of a multi-disciplinary design approach and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stage gates
- Experience of working with offshore global design production centres.
- An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low carbon design
- Excellent understanding of all relevant BIM standards, design integration procedures and relevant legislation
- Knowledge of quality assurance
